For any bibliophiles

For my Odds & Ends feature today I present you with two links.

I don't know about you but I love books. My goodness I have soooo many books. And when moving time comes...believe you me I know I have books.

Found these two cool links in a magazine I was reading recently.

Let's see here...the first one is a site where you can connect with others through your virtual bookshelf display. I went to the site...haven't signed up yet but it says that you can show your bookshelf on your blog somehow. It sounds cool to me. Anyhow...here is the link for Shelfari.

The second link I want to give you is for renting paperbacks and audio books. It is like the netflix of books they say. It seems you pay a monthly fee and then you can get the books or audio books on CD through the mail. They send you a pre-paid envelope to send your stuff back with no late fees. I suppose one advantage is that you can save space in your house without having to store books long term but...hello there is this place in most communities called the LIBRARY. But nonetheless it may be worth looking into for the most recent paperback selections.

The site is called Books Free.

Enjoy!

Just read some of your blog. I love your words, and so support you writing them, saying them, feeling them.
Thanks

Felicia belongs to a book club online where everyone lists used books they have and then they trade them.

It works pretty well for her.

I love books, too. I used to work at a public library when I was younger, and I collected many books that were destined only to be discarded. A large part of my personal library is composed of these rescued thoughts on paper.

I have a great suggestion for you--I recommend this book to everyone and all who have accepted the suggestion loved it. "All My Friends Are Going To Be Strangers".

Not many authors live up to the funny/touching/tender/tough tags of universal writing, but Larry McMurtry certainly does. He also wrote "The Last Picture Show", "Terms of Endearment", and "Lonesome Dove", for which he won a Pulitzer. Excellent author.

You take care, OK?

Peace out.

I love books. Normally I read my books from the libraries I belong to. I order them online and pick them up when they ready.

When purchasing, I typically will buy from Half Price Book Stores if they are available.

For latest books, I buy them if its worthwhile for my life after reading them from the libraries.

Jim :)

I'm guilty of having WAY TOO MANY books in the house and my friends help to contribute to that situation. Frequently, someone will load up a grocery bag (or 2) with paperbacks and pass it along to the next person. You read what you want to and leave the rest in the bag for the next person.

My local library has several shelves of books which are for sale, often at 50-75 cents for a typical paperback and a dollar for a hardback. This is simply too attractive a deal and I find myself with much more than I allow time to read. But lots of fun when I do.

Hope your weekend has gone well...

Being the President of my book club the second link you listed is definitely something I will bring up at our next meeting. Thanks for sharing.

The basement of the building I used to live in for years, there was a bookshelf and people left what they finished and borrowed what they wanted. It was a nice way to have a kind of relationship with the people who live all around you that you never see.

And when I didn't have a place to live yet out here sometimes I would get house-sitting jobs for people I didn't know or just met through volunteering. So my way of knowing who they were was by the books they had. It was another way of having relationships with ghosts of the house you inhabit.

Shelfari - How cool.
