hello out there in bloggerland!
i feel like i am waking up from a long slumber. i have been busy lately...doing other things than writing. but now i am back and ready to rock and roll.
i don't know about you but these shorter days ending in so many hours of darkness make me want to do two things: sleep and eat. just think...at the height of summer...it was light until almost nine. now the days are growing shorter and shorter where darkness begins to fall soon after five.
there is a snuggly cozy feeling to these shorter days. but the darkness can also seep into your soul, inviting that feeling of desolation. so i am cautious about this season. i am doing well so far, keeping the depression beast at bay.
to celebrate my warm and fuzzy feelings tonight, i plan to bake.
what shall i bake? chocolate chip cookies of course. chewy-ooie-gooie ones with melty morsels. can you just taste them now?
what is your favorite home baked cookie? gotta recipe for me?

Chocolate chip cookies work. May I have some please?
I love Choc Chip but Snickerdoodles are my Favorite.
Have a recipe about it and here it goes.....
INGREDIENTS
* 1/2 cup butter, softened
* 1/2 cup shortening
* 1 1/2 cups white sugar
* 2 eggs
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 2 tablespoons white sugar
* 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
2. Cream together butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, the eggs and the vanilla. Blend in the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Shape dough by rounded spoonfuls into balls.
3. Mix the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon. Roll balls of dough in mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until set but not too hard. Remove immediately from baking sheets.
HELPFUL TIPS: Bake for 8 min. ...not 7, not 7 1/2 ...8, and you can even wait a few minutes for it to cool on the cookie sheet just get it out of the oven! Either way, the critics (my family and friends) RAVED about these yummies and I've never left without someone asking for the recipe! Mix dry and wet separately. Hand mix or you'll get a different result. Do not overmix. For the topping, I used 4T. sugar & 4.5 tsp. of cinnamon dumped in ziplock bag. do not be afraid to over coat. Will NOT turn out too sweet!!! If your cookie turns out flat, I'd check to see if your baking soda has expired. To test, It should fizzle the second you place it in water. PERFECT
Remember more brown sugar for chewy and more white for crunchy.
Damn I love Chocolate chip cookies.

World's Best Cookie... Aka That 70s Elusive Cornflake Cookie
Recipe #107595
This wonderful recipe was in circulation when I was a kid in the 70s.
Years later, a woman brought a tray of these to the office, which I instantly recognized as THOSE COOKIES FROM MY CHILDHOOD, and she refused to give me the recipe (said it was her babysitter's secret recipe!
I searched online (tried several recipes) and asked my friends and family off and on if they'd heard of it, for 10 years.
I finally JUST found this online! They are SO GOOD!
Bake them for your friends and family and share the recipe with the WORLD!
Note, the number of cookies you get will vary - depending on how big you roll the balls.

I love the smell of cooked apples. Baking an apple pie when the weather cools off reminds me of REAL changing seasons...something I have to create down here in perpetual summer land.
I not big on cookies myself, unless they're the Samoa Girl Scout cookies (but I think they call them something else these days), then I am an addict. But, I do like pie....pumpkin being my favorite. C:)
Not only can I taste those cookies but I think I can actualy smell them!
"sleep and eat."
I'm with you on that! As for cookies ... anything that someone else makes and is still warm.
what a delight to see all of your cookie crumb smiles here!
My sweet (now 100) Aunt Vi used to make the best cookies. Got the soiled recipe in last years and one of the ingrdients listed was unknown to me. Found out from my doctor that it was OPIUM! Holy Cookie Cutter!!
