went to the doctor today...i thought i must have a urinary tract infection as...i feel pressure to go when i have just gone. something is definitely wrong but...they didn't see anything from their little test. i did get antibiotics though.
is this just the beginning of these sorts of problems related to MS?
asked my gyne if he thought that this was MS related and he felt it was too early for this to happen. i suspect he is wrong.
can anyone tell me more information or tell me of your experiences with this? i just want to cry...i was so sick and now add this...it is like come on.
i just want to feel well.
wanted to add...actually he did see leukocytes? how do you spell that?

Saw your comment on my blog, so ran right over here to practice medicine without a license. LOL
UTI's...general symptoms are painful/burning urination, frequency of urination, or inability to urinate...lot's of "pee" references there. Most people don't necessarily run a fever with a UTI, although it is common to do as well. A spill over of leukocytes means White Blood Cells coming via your pee...not necessarily a "good" thing, but has to be taken into consideration with OTHER symptoms also...like the horrible flu you've had and probable mild/moderate dehydration.
Suggestions: (even though you didn't ask!) 1. Stay away from as much sugar as possible...lowers the immune response and also taints the Ph of the urine a bit.
2. Cranberry juice is a wonderful acidic drink to alter urine Ph as is drinking large amounts of water to "flush" your system. Anything you can do to make yourself pee frequently and in some volume will help as will a touch of Advil for any pain symptoms. 3. If you DO start running a higher fever and/or very painful urination, go BACK to the doctor and tell them your INTERNET physician who practices medicine without any license or credential believes you have a UTI regardless of testing and you should be prophylactically treated for it...worst case scenario? You took some antibiotics for nothing, but will most likely NOT develop a MSRA infection from ONE measely course of anti-B's!!!!
And that, my dear, is my two cents worth...LOL Hope it helps...and doesn't kill you!

thank you thank you for your comment linda. he did mercifully give me antibiotics as he did say it may be the very beginning of one. this is just so...uncomfortable...doesn't cover it. i have never had one of these believe it or not. so i don't know what is going on. i just want this to end!
Did he give you a pelvic exam? If this is too much you don't have to post the comment. Could it be that your uterus is inflamed and is pressing on your bladder?
Merelyme, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you get well soon. Take care.
I've had MANY of these so here's my offer of experience:
AZO-Standard, at your drugstore (over the counter) is an analgesic and got me through the immense discomfort of all my UTI's. Turns your pee bright orange and may make you nauseous, so take with food.
Many times I went to the Dr with symptoms and they didn't find any sign of the infection, but gave me antibiotics and it went away. I think sometimes they do the dipstick test for blood in the urine, and that doesn't happen until later in the infection.
That's what I think anyway.
Azo Standard, go get some.
MS? I too will play DR.: NO-not MS, STD, infection fighters are going after something and they along with antibotic will make you right as rain in two weeks or less.
IC? (My partber has this. another pain in the...other end. But can be lived with.) A pelvic exam does not find IC, only a urologist. Give the antibotics time. Sometimes these things resolve and you NEVER will know what it was. Inflammation--but why? MS? NO. Best advice: don't freak, stay calm, body/mind stress will not help. It will pass. You must really be chosen to be an important person in this life--you are given many struggles. Hold tight to your spiritual search.
i am on antibiotics...he did say it might be the very beginnings of one...urinary tract infection that is.
lol...i can't believe i am talking about this on here.
he also took cultures for yeast infection...and that could also be the culprit.
us women have too many damn parts where things can go wrong.
you guys have been really helpful...but i think i will delete this post soon. too much information.
Wonderful advice here already.
If it is a yeast infection, the antibiotics will make it worse. But that's no reason to not complete the antibiotic cycle (you must finish the cycle once you start.) I had a yeast infection deep inside once and it definitely caused a great deal of pressure.
Have you been drinking lots of caffeine? Caffeine irritates the bladder and may cause a sense of urgency, even when you've just gone.
Cranberry juice, lots of fluids, AZO, limit sugar, limit caffeine, and even more water. Good luck.
Pyridim over the counter now, for the pain, until it is gone. Hey, you brought it up! LOL Yeah, men got it easy, that dang apple what done us in.
not tmi at all, many folk learn from your posts, along with the comments by others
if you use firefox as your web crawler, it has an automatic spell checker built in... it won't correct it, just tells you it's wrong ;)
sorry to hear you have been with the flu and the uti-whatever thingy.
Linda gave good advice. As far as MS and bladder problems go, if the problem is retention (bladder not ever fully emptying)your urologist can do a urodynamics test. Yes, our myelin munchers can disconnect the nerve impulse to the bladder. Before a urodynamic test, the doc can just use a little sonogram type thing in his office to see if your bladder is full or not.
Hope ou will be feeling better soon.
I used to be plagued by bladder infections and that was before my MS. I've only had 1 since. It's good that you caught it in it's early stages because the pain can be excrutiating. You should ask for Pyridium. Always take it along with the antibiotic as it makes the pain go away (and turns your urine a neon orange.)
Pyridium is definitely the way to go for the first 3 days. Much longer than that is not good for the kidneys. It is a miracle drug for that awful pain. I get UTI's at least every other month or so.
Feel better soon,
Anne
