Thoughts of winter...

It gets so dark so early now.

My mind grows dark as well.

That Simon and Garfunkel song runs through my thoughts...

"A winters day
In a deep and dark december;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
Ive built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
Its laughter and its loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island."

So if you were a rock which type of rock would you be? I would be one of those white pebbles you pluck out of your shoe.

On a lighter note...Never sneeze while eating broccoli. I did tonight and it ain't pretty.

Time for links. Please stop by if you can.

First up. Have you ever tried to hide your depression only to find that you and your mood is absolutely visible to everyone including strangers? It is very disconcerting to find out how visible your sadness can be. Here is my story.

Secondly...SEX. That's right. I am talking sex and MS. I know...you don't want to hear about that second part. well tough noogies. Wrote an article about how MS can affect things like sex and intimacy. Don't be afraid. Come by and comment if you dare. You can find my post here.

Come visit me. Even rocks need company now and then.

I love winter. Ohio don't get much "winter" as New England where I am came from. I moved to Ohio when I was about 22 years old.

I need to check "sex and MS" that you mentioned. I will click on the link. That's one of my issues but not as bad.

Miss ya.

winter, depression and sex - the big three! not a big fan of the first two, and a far too infrequent partaker of the last. and i will try to remember that about broccoli.

I love winter.

I live next to my blog's title, and in the winter, it's so quiet in my end of town that you can really hear yourself think.

I'm actually at peace with myself during those times.

As for a rock, I would be the odd shape rock that you would kick down the road for entertainment purposes while walking.

Hey, writer girl! You may already know about this but I just ran across this series about MS in the NYTimes.

Here's the link:

Just one big rock from head to toe, that kinda just sits there. That people lean on, or go behind. :)
Or the kind one keeps in their happiness box.

I don't like that it gets dark so soon either. Nor the grays pervasive for five more months. Though snowy days around this rock, Christmas Eve for example, are treasured.

Hey lovie~

Your picture of stones brought to mind the work of British artist Andy Goldworthy. There is a lovely documentary of his work process called "Rivers and Streams".

I can't look at anything to do with sex. My p-meds have shut down my desires, the weight gained makes me feel unattractive and sobriety is the cherry (tee hee) on top!

Not much winter here either. I was driving yesterday with my windows down in the car. It was quite a bit more chilly here today, though.

And I love broccoli. I will be careful... Great Simon and Garfunkel song.

Interesting acticles...I think I'd be one of those rocks that are more like compacted dirt than a stone...just brittle and crumble away into nothing much when moved from where ever I might be laying.

I would be "Beach Glass" Its not quite a stone, but that would be me. :)

Yes, I think that I could hide my depression or irritability (Bipolarity) and then it just comes out - in front of everyone.

Oh, well...shit happens.

I am not a huge winter fan. I, do, however like the FALL! It is my favorite and I do like the winter up until Christmas then I want Summer back!

well, I keep busy chopping wood for the fire....
Winter's OK, I reckon.
Had so many years in the South, though, and warm is more fun....

Course, it's hard to find snowball material in 70 degree Sunshine.

I use light therapy during this season. I enjoy winter, but not the dark darkness it can bring.

Winter can be a Beooootch, here in North Central Massachusetts as I reside in between three mountains; Monadnock,Watatic and Wachusett. Not much sex here either - no Ms and no sex, so I can't comment on that!
And think of you as a crystal Not a pebble in a shoe....Duh!

Winter is not my favorite season. While living in Indiana, it was cold, too gray, and the snow hung around and just looked dirty.

I like the suggestion of sea glass, instead of rocks. During the week of Thanksgiving, I searched unsuccessfully for a piece of the elusive stuff. http://brassandivory.blogspot.com/2008/11/seafood-on-turkey-day-waves-on-beach.html

Am I the only one who likes winter? I love snow, warm sweaters, wearing boots, and I used to ski (but now I'm afraid of pulling a Sonny Bono...)

I don't enjoy static, however. When it's TOO cold and all the humidity is sucked out of the air I get cranky and electrically-charged. The cat always suffers! LOL

Hi Merely Me! I would be a smooth river stone, enjoying the water washing over me.

Often here winter is very grey, damp etc. so I long to bright crisp days.

I read the articles. The MS and sex was very brave... well done.

It was a wonderful sunny winter's day here on Sunday for a change and Mrs DeeJay and I walked for 3 hours along the cliff tops wrapped up against the cold. Lots of hot tea at the cliff top cafe halfway and then home.

Darn it you know my weak spots don't you - I'm off to read about SEX now!!

I would be Gneiss as my goal for 2009 is to be nice to people instead of my usual curmudgeonly self!
