rambles

i don't have anything specific to say.

that's never stopped me before.

i just feel the need to ramble. the rain came today in icy cold sheets. it seemed an omen of autumn. i love autumn but somehow i feel sad. where did the time go?

there is a song by the dixie chicks, landslide, with such a wistful refrain...

"Well, I've been afraid of changing 'cause I built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older too
Well..."

time is the great equalizer for us all. we are all growing older...by incessant seconds and unheard beats. where are we going with all this time behind us? we look back...what do we see? and does it even matter? we can never go back...only forward...time pushing us into some unknown chasm. who will be there to break our fall?

as crazy as it sounds...sometimes i just want to stay here...safe from the muddied impressions of the past and safe from an uncertain and incomprehensible future. like being wedged in between the screen door and the front door. neither in nor out. simply standing still in space.

and waiting for the rain to stop.

Wow! What is it about rain that pushes for deep reflection of anything and everything? And autumn....gosh, that always gets me deep in thought regarding matters of time passing and major natural transformations. ...combine the two and presto! I'm instantly a deep puddle of reflective nostalgia!
P.S. I love reading here!

That is a lovely soft sweet almost sad ramble.

You had cold sheets of rain and we had an unbelievably hot weekend in the mid-90s.

Thinking of your Happiness Box, for me, it is the reminders and connections which pull me further down. Odd how it can be so different for so many folks.

Yes, Diane, this is how I am feeling tonight. Like maybe if I could just stay here in this spot in time and space for a while. Maybe everything will be okay. Maybe I can catch my breath.

You don't always need to say something specific to say something quite well.
If you weren't between the doors, leaning against the door jamb staring skyward, you were gazing out a window, awash with thoughts.

Fleetwood Mac does that song too!

I love those in-between times. There's something almost sublime about them. Pent up energy all locked away but not restless.

No, all peaceful and comforting in the cold, wet air. The hint of things passed and things to come all around you but just at the right distance for you to feel safe and grounded.

Yes, sometimes we want to stay in stasis. Moving forward is frightening. But stasis never remains.

I think rambling is good for the soul. I often start to ramble and then I'll stumble upon something meaningful to me and it makes that "wasted" time worth while.

Hey, Darlink...

I've been out of pocket for the past 10 days dealing with *Life* and have missed driving by here (among ALL of the blogs I try to read daily...sigh). Unfortunately for YOU, I'm back now. :-) The "unfortunate" part comes in because I will once again resume leaving mindless comments such as this one.

we did get a break in the rain for a few days, showers for tomorrow and a bit longer, then mostly sun til fall is officially upon us

btw - friends in australia say they changed the official beginnings of the seasons to start at the first of the month, rather than on moon positions later in the month... makes sense to me

I loved this line, "like being wedged in between the screen door and the front door. neither in nor out. simply standing still in space. " That is a beautiful image for me. I love the way your write.

Some days I want to stay inside too. But I remind myself of that old saying about how all ships are safe in harbor, but the harbor's not where ships belong...

Hello M.
Tnx for the visit :-)

Time is in my eyes the most precious we got, and the greatest gift we can give to others.

In the light of the above said;
We bloggers gives others a lot, don't we? Still, blogging is interpreted as a pretty egoistic activity. How is that? ;-)

M-

Since I posted here, I learned one of my best friends suicided on Sunday night. Your post here, really really helped me in my grief.

It also made me realize how short life is, and to enjoy every moment.

And hug your family and your cat close.

Love you girlfriend!

Time is so easily under-appreciated, especially when one feels immortal. I no longer feel as if I'm going to live forever but I do find myself working towards a future that I never thought I'd see and I'm actually looking forward to it.

"like being wedged in between the screen door and the front door. neither in nor out. simply standing still in space."

-That sounds like something my cat would write in her autobiography!

(My DJ-self sez: 'Landslide' was written by Stevie Nicks back when she was still Stevie Nicks. It reminds me of someone I miss very much, whom I will never see again. Now I'm all maudlin and stuff...rain happens.Sun follows.)
