Gee...could she have used this word more often? We could make a drinking game out of it.
Let's see...the definition of a maverick is: An unbranded range animal, especially a motherless calf; it can also mean a person who shows independence of thought or action; a lone dissenter; a non-conformist or rebel.
Right.
Isn't that what you think of when describing McCain and Palin? Oh yeah I sure think of rebels when I see those two. Mmmm hmmm. McCain has voted at least 90% of the time with Bush. Need I say more?
Biden rocked it. There is no question he won this debate. The soccer mom joe six pack references...they are wearing thin. Palin had absolutely nothing concrete to say in answer to the questions given. All of it came across as little rehearsed speeches. At least she didn't do the deer in the head lights thing which is consistent with her other interviews. She survived. But that seems hardly good enough when we are talking about the future Vice-President of the United States.
How are McCain's policies any different from Bush's? As Biden accurately pointed out...we haven't heard...and especially in tonight's debate.
One last word...I promise...okay I don't promise. But the whole "Joe six pack" image cracks me up. We voted Bush into office twice because...hey he would make a great drinking buddy! No...we don't need a drinking buddy. We need someone to lead. Sarah Palin...a heartbeat away from the Presidency? Scary? If you aren't scared by this then maybe you have been drinking a few six packs.
Seriously...

This just in...I have a link to a blog post you gotta see about "white privilege" in America...good stuff.
And you also have to see the Sarah Palin flowchart. Priceless.

Hej, tnx 4 visiting! :-)
As an outsider (Swedish) it scares me that a person that shout on animals for fun, and like the Iraqi war and sending American young people into a death overseas to continue ... even are allowed to be thought upon as a presumptive vice president for a civilized country.
If she is representative for American voters, and specially American women and mothers ...
I don't know what to say.
Chocking from my Norse perspective, and I thought the Viking Era was over ;-)
You are right about Ms. Palin, she didn't appear like a deer in the headlights, and I wish I knew who did her makeup. She looked stunning....
I still am not a fan of hers though, I don't think she answered Ms. Ifels (spelling) questions right.
I wish Tim Russert was alive so he could have moderated this. He is so missed.
Isn't she special! Golly gee. I can only hope we see that ticket for what it is 4 more years of Bush.
I agree that Biden was better but my heart is heavy. I think Joe Sixpack is actually dumb enoug to fall for her folksy "heya!" approach. This is the country that elected Bush twice, after all.
Hi Anna! I'm thinking that the US financial system could learn a lot from Sweden.
I thought Governor Palin debated very intelligently, and hit the points with passion. Her view and yours may not coincide, just as Senator Biden's opinions are the opposite of mine. As Susan also noted, Governor Palin was stunning, and in my opinion, her looks were only a small part of it. :)
were i american, obama/biden would get my votes...
because i have little use for mccain/palin....
I didn't see the debate. I didn't need to. I chose who I'm voting for some time ago based on the stated platforms and voting records of the two candidates.
Could not agree more. I was really hoping she would answer questions rather than make statements out of turn. The Moderator royaly messed this one up. She should have maintained control and forced the issues.
i don't normally blog about politics but i am just so fed up...with things. we spent 8 long years suffering under the Bush regime...this bail out is the cumulation of this administration. the republicans chants of "small government" without knowing exactly what that means (gee...how do you ya think we got into the economic mess we are in? No fucking regulations!)...the being naive about taxes...who do you think is funding this war?....and the reluctance to pull out of Iraq...i am just amazed that anyone in their right mind wold vote for McCain.
That someone would rather vote for someone based on how good they look in their eyeglasses instead of upon the issues...it scares me.
And this whole..."Joe six pack" thing...cracks me up. Isn't that how Bush was elected? We do not need a drinking buddy. We need someone we feel confident will lead! Can you imagine Palin as President????
I just shake my head and wonder.
Thank you merelyme! You couldn't have said it better. I'm holding my breath for this to be over, and to learn that over 50% of this country is not clueless.
I think Sarah Palin would make a great president for anybody's PTA. But a VP she ain't.

I normally don't expound on political stuff. But, there were three things that I didn't care for about Governor Palin.
1. You mentioned the "good buddy" deal. I don't want my leaders to be my pals. I want them to be my leaders.
2. I didn't like her dismissal of history as unimportant. If we ignore the lessons of the past, how can we make sure we're not treading down the same path to yesterday's mistakes? We shouldn't dwell on history or live in the past, but we shouldn't dismiss it either.
3. I did not like that she has never felt the need to alter her position on anything. To me, that says that regardless of any new information, regardless of any new circumstances, her original idea on anything is her best choice. It's not such a bad thing to consider new facts and changing circumstances, and re-evaluate your position accordingly.
I am scared. McCain is damn old.
Hi merelyme,
Thank you for the neat comment on my blog.
Did I meet you before, in another life, another blog?
You betcha! We could use more smiling and winking too! Unreal.
The Trailer Of Love
HA!! Join the club! MY MS blog was never meant to be so political but how cn we be silent? Please, commenters from other countries---we hate Bush, we are terrified McCain will win. We HATE what our country has become. %^&*
Palin's "ya darn right" phrases are surely not in line for someone who might one day lead our country. She's an idiot.
I'm getting the distinct impression that you are less than thrilled with the idea of Palin as our potential VP. For what it's worth, I'm with you.
The flow chart is hilarious!
I think Palin looked great on camera, but Biden answered the tough questions. I don't think the shot out to the third graders was appropriate. Biden did a great job of saying that with McCain there would not be any change because he votes the same way as President Bush.
Palin comes across as so snarky--like one of those junior high girls who makes herself feel powerful by belittling others. Most people grow out of this, and if they don't, they don't seek high public office.
In a leader, I look for wisdom rooted in experience and knowledge of history. I look for great intellectual capacity, the ability to consider the results of various actions. And I look for compassion, an eye to the greater good. I just don't see any of that in this woman. She creeps me out.
I liked that link.
Referencing American racism, writer Steven Barnes recently asked on his blog why, with all that makes Americans so unhappy right now resting firmly at the feet of the Republicans, Obama isn't up in the polls by 20 points? Why should his lead be 'narrow' at all?
I'm not a particularly career driven woman. I'm an artist, that takes jobs to meet the bills. Having just come off SSDI for mental health reasons, I can assure you that I am not the daughter that my parents envisioned.
However, when I'm meeting with a potential client to discuss the work I will do in their house, be it faux-finish, plaster or painting, I keep a check on my winks. They are reserved for people that I'm intimate with. Or those that I'd like some intimacy with in the future!
Perhaps the most upsetting to me, after I reeled back from wink-shock, was her continued use of the word "Maverick". I lost my taste for this word when the Scientologist Tom Cruise played a roll in "Top Gun".
His character was named "Maverick", which was a complete misnomer. Look back above to see the definition of a maverick. An unbranded cattle, a loner, a rebel. If you get to top gun status as a Navy Flier, you are not a maverick. The Navy has rules that would put your great-grandmother to shame.
I know actual mavericks in my life. I bet you do too. A borderline -maverick could be found in the Green Party, in Ross Perot. But most of them fail to show on the radar, because that is not their primary purpose. They focus on doing what comes naturally. Doing the right thing, regardless of cost.
I think that she is the little cheerleader from HS who got a long way on looks without brains. It is a scary thought that she could lead this country.
The Maverick drinking game...I'M ON IT !!!
I love the song!!!
I think you will get a kick out of this video:
